Elk Grove Man Arrested After Interfering With Emergency Crew, Punching Police Officer

An Elk Grove man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he allegedly interfered with emergency personnel and punched a police officer.

According to Elk Grove Police, Consumnes Community Services District (CCSD) emergency personnel were responding to a collision with injuries near Elk Grove-Florin Road and Heritage Hill Drive when 19-year old Aki Armstrong began to harass and interfere with their operation. CSD personnel advised responding officers that Armstrong had operated his vehicle in a reckless manner by driving southbound on Elk Grove Florin Rd. in the northbound lanes at 50 MPH almost causing several collisions.

CCSD personnel also advised that Armstrong was tailgating the emergency vehicles en route to the scene, cutting them off in the process. A citizen`s arrest was signed by CCSD personnel.

When officers contacted the suspect on the sidewalk, he refused to provide identification and turned away. When an officer attempted to detain Armstrong, he turned around and punched the officer in the face.

A struggle ensued and Armstrong was taken to the ground where he continued to resist and not follow the instructions. Armstrong was eventually taken into custody and the officer suffered minor injuries.

Prior to Armstrong's vehicle being towed, an inventory search led to the discovery of marijuana. The suspect was arrested then transported to the main jail where he remains in custody on $20,000 bail.
