Smart Phone App Leads to Apprehension of Two Thieves
A lady who had her smartphone robbed early Saturday morning was able to get the two thieves suspected of the robbery apprehended thanks to an anti-theft app on the device.
According to Elk Grove Police, the 24-year old victim was at a local bowling alley when she had met 26-year old Marcos McNeil Ware of Elk Grove. The victim left to use a restroom and when she returned, bot her phone and the suspect were gone.
Using an app installed on her phone, the victim determined her phone was on the 4700 block of Battles Court and paid the residence a visit. The victim spoke with 22-year old Andre Byrd at the residence and a verbal confrontation started.
McNeil Ware was observed exiting the residence holding a handgun. An independent witness observed the argument and observed Byrd carrying the firearm back into the residence. Both suspects were eventually detained and a consent search of McNeil Ware's residence led to the discovery of the case that victim's phone was in.
Officers were unable to locate the phone or handgun. Both suspects were arrested then taken to county jail.
