Elk Grove Man Convicted of Embezzlement

District Attorney Jan Scully announced that 49-year-old Carl Jeffrey Pelton was sentenced to 2 years, 4 months in state prison by the Honorable John Winn after pleading no contest to two counts of grand theft and admitting the white collar crime enhancement for taking over $100,000.

Pelton operated his own metal recycling business and he would obtain automobile parts for recycling for several larger automobile part recycling companies. These larger companies would advance Pelton the money for buying the automobile parts.

In November 2011, Pelton embezzled approximately $280,000 of the fronted money and fled to Honduras. Pelton received a reduced sentence because he returned on his own from Honduras, contacted all the victims and started working on repayment plans.

In addition, Pelton showed up on his own at the Elk Grove Police Department and confessed to all of his crimes.
