Elk Grove Murder Suspect Captured, Arrested

Elk Grove Murder suspect Ryan Hays was captured and arrested late last night.

Hays, who is suspected of killing 19-year-old Joseph Oropesa by a gunshot to the head on Sunday night outside an Elk Grove record store was apprehended at 9:00 p.m. and was taken into custody at a residence in Stanislaus County by the Elk Grove Police Department with assistance from the Sacramento County Regional Gang Task Force and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

Hays was returned to Elk Grove and was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for murder, robbery and carjacking. The 1992 Ford Explorer two-door that had been stolen after the shooting was also recovered.

At this time, the firearm that was used in this crime has not been recovered and no motive for the alleged killing has been established.
