Burglary Suspect Caught on Tape

The Elk Grove Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a suspect responsible for a burglary that took place on June 21, 2010 at “The Commons” an Elk Grove Independent & Assisted Living facility located at 9564 Sabrina Lane.

On June 21, 2010 at 5:20 p.m., the female suspect (see photo) gained access inside “The Commons”, which is an independent and assisted living facility for seniors, by way of a service entrance. Surveillance video shows the suspect checking door handles on rooms to see if they were unlocked.

The suspect was observed entering a resident’s room without permission and exiting a short time later. The surveillance footage then shows the suspect exiting the facility and leaving the parking lot in a black four dour vehicle.

A few days after the burglary, the resident was contacted by her bank regarding several suspicious charges on her account. At this point, the resident discovered that her wallet, credit cards, jewelry, cash and a digital camera had been stolen from her room and called police to report the crime.

Detectives believe that the suspect captured on video surveillance is responsible for the theft. The suspect is described as an African-American female, approximately twenty years of age, five feet four inches tall (5’4”), one hundred seventy pounds (170 lbs.). The suspect had black hair pulled into a ponytail with braids and was wearing a white t-shirt with blue jeans.

Anyone with information regarding this burglary is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Detective Bureau at (916) 478-8060 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers to Crime Alert can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Tips can also be sent via SMS text message by entering CRIMES (274637) on a cell phone, followed by Tip732 (agency identification number) and the message.
