Two Elk Grove probationers were arrested early yesterday morning on suspicion of possessing stolen property and auto theft. .
According to Elk Grove Police Department reports, officers observed 24-year old James Medeiros and 24-year old Hilary Mendonca, both known probationers, drive into a gas station on the 9600 block of East Stockton Boulevard. Once the vehicle stopped, Mendonca quickly exited the vehicle and entered the gas station’s restroom.
Officers contacted both suspects and detained them without incident. A probation search of the vehicle led to the discovery of reported stolen property.
A search of the restroom led to the discovery of a car key and burglary tools. Officers located a reported stolen vehicle nearby and the key that was recovered in the restroom belonged to the stolen car.
Both suspects were arrested and transferred to the county jail.
