Man Convicted of Attempted Elk Grove Murder Sentenced
Lovie James was sentenced to 23 years in prison yesterday for a 2011 assault on his then-girlfriend.
James was convicted by jury of attempted voluntary manslaughter, and felony charges of domestic violence, elder abuse, criminal threats, and vehicle theft.
In February 2011, 54-year-old James assaulted his 69-year-old girlfriend in her Elk Grove home. James slammed the victim’s head on the tile floor causing a blow out orbital fracture of her right eye and bleeding on her brain.
As she lay defenseless on the floor, James began pouring gasoline on both of them claiming they were both going to die that night. When the girlfriend’s nephew called 911, James stole her car and fled the scene.
The victim was transported to the hospital, and James was apprehended approximately one week later.
