A mother and her four year old child were physically attacked by a parolee last night in Elk Grove.

According to Elk Grove Police Department reports, the 31-year old mother had just placed her son in the back seat of the car on the 8200 block of Geneva Point Drive and was getting in the front when 24-year old Joseph Davis of Elk Grove approached her and grabbed her. Davis started punching the victim in the face and threw her to the ground.

Davis then entered the vehicle but was unable to start it. The four year old boy, who was in the back seat, tried to stop Davis from starting the car. Davis the allegedly struck the child in the face then fled the scene with the keys on foot.

Officers were able to locate Davis at a nearby residence where he was detained. The victim was able to positively identify him and a search of the residence resulted in the discovery of the stolen car keys.
