Elk Grove Police Arrest Woman Who Leaves Baby Unattended For An Hour

A Sacramento woman was arrested early yesterday afternoon after she left a 16-month old baby unattended in a car.


According to Elk Grove Police, officers responded to a call regarding to an unattended child in a locked car on the 8100 block of Laguna Blvd. Officers were able to remove the child from the vehicle and determined that he had been in the vehicle for approximately one hour by himself.

As officers were leaving with the child, 30-year old Niesha Powell of Sacramento exited a nearby building and contacted officers. Powell was babysitting the child and had driven him to this location.

Powell was arrested then processed at EGPD and issued issued a misdemeanor citation and released. The child was taken into protective custody and released to CPS.
