Drunk Driver Leads Elk Grove Police on Vehicle, Foot Pursuit

A suspected drunk driver led police on a short vehicle pursuit after failing to pull over.

According to Elk Grove Police Department reports, officers responded to a call for a possible drunk driver sighting Saturday night near Campbell Road and Elk Grove-Florin Road. Officers located the described vehicle going westbound on Elk Grove Boulevard near Williamson Drive and attempted an enforcement stop.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop and led the officers on a short pursuit through a nearby parking lot then back on to Williamson. The driver then left the vehicle and fled on foot.

After a foot pursuit and brief struggle, officers arrested 35-year old Luis Viga who displayed objective signs of impairment. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the county jail.

Police also report the arrest of four other suspects over the weekend on suspicion of drunk driving.

In other activity, police also arrested 46-year old David Kennerly Sunday morning. A known probationer, police contacted Kennerly near Elk Grove Boulevard and Elk Grove-Florin Road.

A records search revealed Kennerly was on a searchable probation. A vehicle search reportedly revealed fictitious U.S. currency. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the county jail.
